10 000 STEPS A DAY, YOUR HEALTH INDICATOR

This can never be stressed enough, walking is essential to stay fit, and it is in everyone's interest to exercise.

Taking the stairs rather than the elevator, the bike rather than the car are common messages and yet, in 2015, people walked only 7,000 steps a day on average.

1. HOW MUCH IS IT AND HOW TO ACHIEVE IT?

It is considered that 10,000 steps equal approximately 8km walking, i.e. 300 to 400 kcal depending on the pace.
If it seems difficult to achieve at first sight, feel free to customize your goal and to add on progressively. The important thing is to walk!
Start by measuring your step count and try, for example, to double it, go from 2,000 to 4,000, then to 5,000 until your eventually reach the 10,000 steps.

2. HEALTH BENEFITS

Many benefits have been demonstrated: reduction of blood pressure, reduction of the risk of cancer or heart attack, and most of all, reduction of mortality by 15% with just a fifteen minute walk every day.

3. DAY-TO-DAY BENEFITS

AS PART OF A WEIGHT LOSS DIET

Avoiding physical inactivity by walking helps toning up, but also supports long-term weight loss.
Indeed, it has been proven that when you walk, you can burn up to 45% fat vs only 35% when you jog: when submitted to low-intensity exertion  for at least 30 minutes, the body gets the energy it needs from its fat reserves!

AS PART OF STAYING FIT

Walking provides both a break in your day and an opportunity to escape.

Why not getting out of the underground 2 stations before your workplace, or just simply walking to work if you can ? Getting fresh air and avoiding the stress associated with public transports is the best way to start your day!

TO GO EVEN FURTHER…

There are many tips to push yourself towards your goal of 10,000 steps per day.
The most common of them is to get an activity tracker, an essential sensor that measures the number of steps you take in the day and the calories you have burnt!

So go lace up your sneakers!
